Doug Maclean

I have spent more than 40 years as a professional in aviation. I am an Air Traffic Controller by training and worked for the CAA and NATS at 7 airports and also the NATS en route centre at Prestwick where I managed the multi discipline operations room which included Shanwick Oceanic plus the Scottish and Manchester Area Control Centres. It is by far the biggest volume of airspace managed in Europe.

I finished working with NATS as a senior manager and set up my own aviation consultancy DKM Aviation Partners. After working in the Middle East and Japan I managed contracts like the provision of ATC services at Leeds Bradford airport.

I joined with a few ex colleagues who were planning to start an Airshow to replace the Leuchars Airshow which sadly finished in 2013. In 2014 The Scottish Airshow was born. Based at Prestwick Airport and displaying at Ayr seafront we built a major airshow in just a few years. Our company – Airshow Scotland Ltd runs not only Airshows but also bespoke aviation events like dropping a parachute team on to the final fairway at a major European Golf Tour competition and delivering the trophy to the winning golfer.

All of my career has been based on safety first and foremost and the Airshow world is full of high calibre individuals. Bringing a team together to deliver a spectacular event is a satisfying challenge. I plan to assist Event Organisers with my work on the BADA Management Committee
