Swiss Air Force F/A-18C Hornet - Bob Sharples

Swiss Air Force F/A-18C Hornet – Bob Sharples

On Thursday 30th July, come and meet the Fleet Air Arm (the Royal Navy’s flying force) at the 2015 Culdrose Air Day.

The ultimate day out for those who love helicopters and fast jets. If flight simulation games aren’t realistic enough, why not have a close encounter with the real thing? Bring your budding fighter pilots to experience life onboard Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose.

Air Day will be action-packed from start to finish. As fast jets and military aircraft zoom across the skies, budding aviators and those who once dreamt of flying can experience at first-hand life inside one of Europe’s largest helicopter bases.

Ever dreamt of becoming a pilot? Want to find out what it’s like to sit at the controls of a 15 tonne helicopter, surrounded by the latest technology, making vital tactical decisions?

On Air Day, you will be able to meet aircrew who have served on Front Line Squadrons all over the world, pilots who have just earned their ‘Wings’, and members of the Search and Rescue Squadron who are seen flying all over Cornwall on daring rescue missions, often putting their own lives at risk to save others.  It is the last Air Day that 771 Naval Air Squadron will fly at before they are decommissioned next year.

Air Day is all about finding out what life is like behind the gates of Culdrose – experience a world that you wouldn’t normally have access to. As well as Sailors to meet, equipment to touch and try on and aircraft to climb onboard, the whole day will be packed with plenty for everyone to see and do on the ground.

There is also an Arena with acts including Her Majesty’s Band of Royal Marines, A Field Gun Display and The White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team.

An assault on the senses!

Cover your ears! The roar of engines, the smell of aviation fuel and the screech of Fast Jets as they ‘Pull G’ will give you butterflies. Feel your heart pound as aircraft zoom across the skies. Daring helicopter displays will leave you breathless.

Action in the Sky:

Aerobatic display teams flying fast jets and helicopters will thrill you with exciting, action packed flying displays full of daring manoeuvres and precision flying.

Against the stunning backdrop of the Cornish coastline, aircraft will loop, soar and twist above – you will witness magnificent sights and sounds from across the world of aviation, both past and present.

On the ground there will be a large static display of aircraft. Here you will be able to get up close to a wide variety of modern and historic aircraft, and have your picture taken with your favourite.

The flying display will begin at 11:00 and last until 17:00. We have a whole host of special acts, to name but a few – Italy’s version of the Red Arrows, the ‘Frecce Tricolori’ (we are the only UK Air Show on their schedule), a Swiss Air Force F18, the Breitling Wing Walkers, the Royal Navy Black Cats and the Blades. Our resident aircraft will also be showcasing their skills and as home to a team of retired Harriers, we will be showing the UK’s only live Harrier ground display.

An Action Packed Day – Whatever the weather!
